By his observations, a soul progresses from beginner to "master," and the degree of its maturity is reflected in the '''color of its aura''' — from white in young souls to blue-violet in the most developed. == Color as an indicator ==
According to Newton, aura color is not a sign of power but an indicator of a soul's experience and function: "the shade depends on how far you have advanced." He associated the basic colors — white, yellow, and blue — with stages of development.

On reaching the high levels (V–VI), souls, by Newton's accounts, acquire "specializations" — for example healers, ethicists, guides of newly created souls, and others.
