Past-life regression is a method in which a person is brought into a hypnotic trance and their memory is guided backward — beyond the present life, to memories of past incarnations. In this state the person relives the scenes, identities, and circumstances of their former lives, up to their conclusion. On the basis of these memories, an understanding of reincarnation is built and therapeutic work is carried out.
How a session proceeds
The practitioner brings the person into a deep, relaxed state and guides their memory step by step: first to early events of the present life, then — across a "threshold" — into a past life. The person describes who they were, where and when they lived, and how they died; this often reveals the roots of present-day fears, attachments, and recurring life patterns. A session usually lasts several hours.
Therapeutic application
Regression is used to find and work through the source of a problem that lies in a past life: irrational fears and phobias, bodily and emotional patterns, difficult relationships. Having recognized the original cause, a person, by practitioners' testimony, obtains relief that is hard to achieve by conventional methods.
Connection with the "Life Between Lives" method
Past-life regression opens up the past lives themselves. Developing it, Michael Newton went further — beyond the threshold of death, into the interval between incarnations: thus the Life Between Lives method arose. In this way, past-life regression is the foundation on which the deeper between-lives regression is built.
Development of the method
The method became widely known through the work of Brian Weiss (Many Lives, Many Masters), Dolores Cannon (the QHHT method), Michael Newton, Hans TenDam, and thousands of other practitioners in the activation of reincarnation memory. Professional associations of regression therapists and a training tradition of their own have taken shape.
