Spirit Guides
English term spirit guide
In the model of Michael Newton
Type concept of the "Life Between Lives" method

Spirit guides are, in the model of the American hypnotherapist Michael Newton, highly developed souls who accompany another soul throughout its incarnations and in the spirit world between lives. By the accounts of Newton's clients, every soul has one or more such guides.

Role

According to Newton, a spirit guide meets the soul at the "gateway" immediately after death, helps it to recover and reorient, and accompanies it to the meeting with the Council of Elders and to the stage of selecting a new life. Newton described the relationship of soul and guide as that of student and teacher, not defendant and judge; guides do not compel and respect the soul's freedom of choice:

"Our relationships with our guides are those of student and teacher, not of the accused and their judges."

Hierarchy

A guide is itself an advanced soul of a high level of development. Newton identified stages of guidance:

  • junior guide — a soul beginning to teach others;
  • senior guide;
  • Master guide — guides of the highest level, forming, in Newton's phrase, "a sort of council."

Less experienced souls usually have an assigned guide; beginner souls may not yet have a personal guide.
