Life Between Lives (full title, Life Between Lives: Hypnotherapy for Spiritual Regression) is the third book by the American hypnotherapist Michael Newton, published in 2004 by Llewellyn Publications. Unlike Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls, which are built on clients' accounts, this is a practical manual for hypnotherapists — a step-by-step description of how to conduct a Life Between Lives session. Together with the two earlier books, the author called it part of a "trilogy."
Purpose
The book is addressed above all to experienced practitioners and describes the technique for accessing the "memories of the soul" in the superconscious state. Newton, by then retired from active practice, set out the techniques he had developed over more than three decades so that the method could be learned and advanced by future generations of practitioners. The foreword was written by one of his first students, Arthur Roffey.
Structure
The manual is built as a sequential session protocol and consists of six parts:
- the initial interview and work with the client's belief system;
- preparation for spiritual regression (requirements for the practitioner, the preliminary interview);
- the start of the session: induction and deepening of trance, moving back in time, transition into a past life;
- the "gateway" into the spirit world: working with the death scene, the soul's departure, first contacts with a spirit guide;
- the Life Between Lives session proper: the soul group, soul colors and levels, the visit to the Council of Elders, selection of a future life;
- closing the session and emerging from trance.
It concludes with a set of "spiritual principles."
Significance
Life Between Lives established the method as a reproducible technique and became the basis of the training program of The Newton Institute: from the late 1990s Newton led seminars, in 2001 held the first certification conference, and in 2002 founded the organization for training practitioners.
